Discovering Skyline

We’re glad that you’ve chosen to find out more about Skyline Baptist Church! Our church is made up of people like you, who have come from various church backgrounds and some who have no church background at all.  This information is designed to briefly explain what our church is about.  We trust it will answer questions that are pertinent to you.  We will pray with you that you will catch a vision of where God wants you to worship and what God desires to do through you.  Our desire is that together we will make a positive impact in our world for Jesus Christ.

We want you to know that God does not want anyone to feel as an outcast or not welcome in His family. As a matter of fact, His Word states clearly:
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members
of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19)

To be part of God’s family means that there was a specific time when:

·  You recognized that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. (Romans 3:23)
·  You repented of your sins by turning from your old life to a new life in Christ Jesus. (Acts 3:19; II Corinthians 5:17)
·  You confessed and believed that Jesus paid for your sins by dying on a cross, was buried in a tomb and rose from the dead.  (Romans 10:9-10)
·  You have accepted God’s gift of eternal life by grace and not by your own good works. (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8)

Church membership at Skyline Baptist is very important to us!  We are not looking for someone to fill a seat but we are looking for those who sense “God’s leading” in their life to become “partners with us” in ministry.

What does the Skyline Baptist Church believe?

We believe that the entire Bible is the Word of God, inspired in all parts by God and without error, preserved by God so that it is a divinely authoritative standard for every age and every life.

We believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and that these three are one God.

We believe that Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man, and He was born of a virgin and that He lived a sinless life, that He was crucified, died as a penalty for our sins and was raised from the dead bodily on the third day. He now sits at the Father’s right hand where He is head of the church and intercedes for believers, and from which He is coming again personally, bodily, visibly to this earth to set up His millennial kingdom.

We believe that by His shed blood, the Lord Jesus Christ made a perfect atonement for sin and that men are saved on the simple and single fact of the shed blood.

We believe that salvation with its forgiveness of sins, its impartation of a new nature and its hope of eternal life, is entirely apart from good works or man’s effort and is of pure grace.

We believe that a true believer is eternally secure, that he cannot lose his salvation, but sin may interrupt the joy of fellowship with God.

We believe in the two ordinances of the local church:
     (1) believer’s baptism by immersion, (2) the Lord’s Supper, lovingly shared with those of like faith and order.

We believe that God has given to His Church a commission of taking the gospel to every race, religion, and region of the world.

We support mission work by giving financially and by going personally.

We believe that it is the goal of every Christian to grow in spiritual maturity through obedience to the Word of God and the indwelling Spirit.

We believe that every believer is to share their faith in Christ intentionally at every opportunity given to them.

Why does Skyline Baptist Church exist?

The Skyline Baptist Church exists to glorify God:
·        By worshiping God together
·        By reaching lost people for Christ
·        By using our gifts and abilities to minister to the needs of others
·        By providing opportunities for people to grow spiritually in Christ
·        By enjoying the fellowship of our church family

What does church membership involve?

As a member of Skyline Baptist Church I am expected:

To be involved in Sunday School/Bible study so that I can grow spiritually

To use my gifts & abilities in a ministry within the church so I can serve faithfully.

To share my faith in Christ so I can help others know of God’s love in my community and around the world.

To financially support the ministries of the Skyline so I can help God's kingdom work be accomplished in our church and around the world.

How do I become a member of the Skyline Baptist Church?

1.     Do you know that you have eternal life in Christ Jesus?
2.     Have you been baptized since you received Christ as your Savior?
If you are a believer but have not been baptized, we would love to talk with you about the meaning of baptism.
3.     Are you willing to attend a “Discovering Skyline” church membership class?
4.     Have you read and do you agree the above statements on “What does church membership involve?"

If you have received Christ, have followed him in believers baptism and agree with us about “what church membership involves” then the only thing undone is “What is God saying to you?” Is God leading you to unite with Skyline Baptist Church?    If so, then please contact the church office and one of our pastors will talk with you about becoming a member and enrolling you in the “Discovering Skyline Class.”
