Skyline's History is 'His Story'.
The view was beautiful. Skyline Baptist Church was aptly named, perched high on a bluff, with commanding views of Table Rock Lake, the dam and Chateau on the Lake. But the small frame building had seen better days, and was too small to accomodate the congregation. That fall, the Skyline staff was pondering the possibility of three worship services and three Sunday school sessions each Sunday. Of course, there was the dream: God had placed a new location for Skyline Baptist Church on the heart of Senior Pastor Larry Craig. A currently unused theatre located 2 miles north, on Highway 165, along the banks of Fall Creek was in need of a new owner. The larger facility, plentiful land and convenient location seemed perfect for a theatre...so why not a church? The months went on, and obtaining the theatre builidng seemed more and more out-of-reach financially. Staying in the old building seemed impossible. So the people prayed. And they prayed.
But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
On a Wednesday, a business man named Joe stopped by the Hard Luck Diner in Branson for lunch, and was served by Kelly, a member of the Skyline Baptist youth group. A Christian himself, Joe was interested in Kelly, her testimony and her youth group. Led by God, Kelly shared her witness of God’s work in the Skyline congregation...and the current need. Joe requested her pastor’s name and phone number, and then contacted Bro. Larry. Joe was associated with the owners of Hobby Lobby, and by Saturday of that week, he had exciting news: if the owner of the theatre building would agree to a pre-determined price, they would purchase the property and lease it to Skyline for a year. At the end of that first year, Hobby Lobby would donate the dinner theatre and 55 acres (valued at over $3 million) to Skyline. The Skyline family stepped into their new home on December 31, 2002.
On January 1, 2003, we went to work on the facility you see now. For two-and-a half years, we as a church family, prayed, pledged and pleaded to find a way to make the move we believed in our hearts God desired for us. Then, God said to us, ''For two-and-a-half years, children, you've exhausted all your efforts, and you've tried every way known, and been faithful to Me through it all. Now, watch what I can do!" And in two days, He did what we could not in two-and-a-half years!
